Mosaics tiles can be a great tool for expressing your ideas and inspirations for your next dream bathroom. Mosaic tiles that are combined with natural stone tiles can enhance your designs. Beautiful blue shades of glass is an excellent companion to your field tile in marble or porcelain.
Mosaic tiles can be made out of any hard surface material like marble, travertine, limestone, slate, and porcelains.
Often there are production overruns, broken tiles, or excess production. These tiles are then cut into smaller pieces. These tiles are produced in multi-blade cutting machines and pieces are usually 1×1 or 2×2 mosaics. These mosaics are then assembled on grids and either face taped or mesh-mounted.
These tiles are more practical and used on versatile surfaces like shower floors, bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes. Circular surfaces such as columns and countertop turns can also be covered with mosaic tiles. On shower floors, mosaics tiles create an eye-catching natural slope and less slippery surface.
Mosaic making tradition goes all the way to Ancient Turkey, Greece, and Rome. Mosaic was an essential form of expressing beauty and artistry. Famous mosaics decorate famous churches and monuments. Chora Museum in Istanbul is one of the most magnificent of the ancient mosaic making tradition. You can see beautiful mosaic designs on the walls of the Chora Museum.
Hand made mosaics are used as a decorative art these days. You can have floral, or traditional mosaics decorating your backsplash or bathroom wall.

Porcelain is not a traditional mosaic material. However, the recent popularity of porcelain tiles in hotel floors, hotel shower floors, and other demanding surfaces created a need for smaller pieces. Porcelain tiles are cut into 1×1 and then they are mesh mounted to create a new dimension in this new flooring medium as a porcelain floor.
Mosaic tiles should be well-calibrated and cut with precision tools so that the grout joint between the pieces is even and consistent. Besides, all the pieces must be well calibrated so that thickness is uniform and even. This will make installation easy.
Mosaic pieces must be glued to the sheet with a good quality bonding material so that it will adhere to the subfloor. This glue should be soluble so that it will dissolve and bond.
If you are installing marble mosaics with staggered joints, sheets must be well designed so that it locks in between them and it creates a seamless look.
Also, if there is a design or a pattern, you may want to have corner pieces. It is fairly difficult to make good corner pieces in complicated patterns.
Mosaic tiles are installed like any other tile. The major difference being grouting all the joints between the pieces. After you install your mosaic sheets be sure to grout well. Grout needs to get in between all the pieces and bond with your floor.
You should also dry lay all your mosaics before installation. Although most mosaic producers blend their materials, sometimes you will see shading from one sheet to another. This variation occurs in natural materials like marble mosaics or travertine mosaics and you may see the problem if you don’t blend them well.
If your mosaics tiles are face taped, be sure to remove the face tape quickly so that it does not create a residue on the surface. You should also store these pieces away from the Sun until installation. Some of the tape used in these mosaics may leave a mark on the surface.
