So, what exactly is broccoli powder and does it have any health benefits? Keep on reading for your questions answered.
In essence, broccoli powder is exactly what you’d expect – it’s air or freeze-dried dried and ground version of the cruciferous vegetable we all know and (mostly) love.
The vegetable is full of healthy plant-compound, glucosinolates, which is released when you chew, chop or blend the food.
Pure broccoli powder is nutrient-rich and full of fibre. It’s a great source of calcium, vitamin K, vitamin C, chromium and folate and is sodium and fat-free. Like other cruciferous vegetables, it can help lower the risk of heart disease plus it contains a compound called sulforaphane which helps fight against cancers.
In any way, you can imagine, really! From adding the powder directly to a glass of water, shake or smoothie, right up to soups, stews and other solid meals. You can jump on the trend and even add it to your morning coffee.
Getting your hands on broccoli powder won’t be as hard as you might expect. It’s a fairly common item in supplement and health-food stores right across the UK, but here are some of our favourites available online:
