Spotlight On: Country Christmas Tree Skirt

12 May.,2023

It’s official! The December 2022 issue of Crochet World is finally out on newsstands. Check out everything the issue has to offer by visiting here and here. Then be sure to subscribe so you do not miss a thing (or purchase a copy here)!

One of the many great projects in this issue is the Country Christmas Tree Skirt by designer Joyce Geisler. This is an heirloom filet crochet thread tree skirt that you will want to pass down through the generations. (Need thread? We have you covered!)  It may seem a bit daunting as it has 6, not overly large (sorry all we really wanted to squeeze in all the fun patterns for you that we could!), charts to follow. Designer Joyce was nice enough to send along some images of how it might be easier to work with all the different charts.

Print the charts from the magazine in a much larger format. This will make them easier to see and you can mark the rows as you work. This may be just enough for you to succeed with the pattern but you can go even further.

Take the larger charts, cut them out and tape them together in the order that they are worked. This allows you to truly see how the tree skirt comes together as you work.

Then add in the joining stitches so you don’t have to remember or reference the instructions as much. You can just pull this out and layout it out in front of you as you work. Highlight or cross off the rows as you work. Or take a piece of paper and lay it under the row you are working on so that you can really focus on that particular row.

Take a little time each day to plug away at this beauty and it will be ready for Christmas in no time!

FYI: Unfortunately we do have one small correction to the printed pattern. It is as follows:

Tree Skirt
Row 4: Ch 8, dc in first dc, *following charts, work 59 blocks and sps, ch 5, dc in next dc, rep from * across rem sections, end with ch 5, dc in 3rd ch, turn. (6 sections of 59 blocks and sps)

When we have a correction to a pattern in the magazine, you can find them by visiting the Crochet World site or the Annie’s Craft Store site.
