The main thing you'll need is a way to attach the starter to the engine. I havea bellhousing cut off of an old tranny that I use for this. You'll need abattery and 2 cables, one to the post on the starter and one to the case. Thenyou'll (at minimum) need to run a +12v wire to the positive side of the coil,and a gas line from the fuel pump to a gas can. Short across the solenoid toactivate the starter and you're off and running.
I have a more sophisticated setup that has ignition on/off, starter button, oil
and generator warning lights, etc. Makes it really nice to test the engine and
charging system before you install it. Costs just a few bucks to set up and is
well worth it.
