Customizing beer bottle neck labels

While this blog has looked at the intricacies of producing beer labels before, we haven’t quite mentioned the multiple pieces that go into covering an entire bottle. The thin “neck” of a bottle can sport a special label that’s as distinctive as the body of the bottle itself, and with some creativity, this smaller section can play a notable role in the bottle’s packaging. Brewbound recently looked at Goose Island, which has implemented this idea in its Bourbon County Brand Stout bottles.

The standard beer neck label wraps cleanly around.

The standard beer neck label wraps cleanly around, and often continues the colors and design of the main label to create a sense of unity. Goose Island did something different, as the source notes, to draw attention to itself. Its stout bottles, which feature special lettering on the glass, come with neck labels that have special “flags” sticking out at an angle.

“Special treatment was applied to the neck label to allow for two sided printing of the flag component and to ensure it maintained its perpendicular shape once applied,” Brewbound wrote. “The back label was tapered to match the taper of the bottle with a custom die cut shape.”

Whether you decide to replicate the main label in a smaller form or try something a little different, a color label printer can help you achieve the perfect sense of cohesion. Food and beverage labels may look best when produced with an in-house printer. In addition to fitting the desired style exactly, this could also help producers fill their entire production orders at once.
