Engineering

Rubber is a very versatile material, for the right application a lot of knowledge is needed. NDS-Seals has the specific knowledge to deal with your sealing problem. In order to come to the optimal sealing solution we go through a structured design process, consisting of the following phases:

  • Exploration
  • Concept design
  • Detail design

Survey

In the survey phase we want to get a clear picture of the seal desired, the application and the assembly. We investigate how the seals are used in practice, which aspects are important and what the advantages and disadvantages of any existing seals are. During this research the first ideas are put on paper in order to gain insight into the situation at hand. The research results in a plan in which we, together with our customer, determine the product properties desired.

Concept design

In the concept design phase, ideas are initially devised for all the important partial aspects of the new seal. Ideas in the areas of design, ergonomics, functionality, construction, production, maintenance, installation, assembly, etc. These ideas are combined into a number of complete product concepts. In consultation with our customer, a direction is then chosen and a concept design for the new seal is put together. Cost price and investment estimates of this concept are made and presented to our customer.

Detailed design

In the detailed design phase, the concept design is worked out in detail. Using CAD software, the main shape, shape detailing and construction are recorded in a 3D model. Material, production technique, and dimensioning of all parts are determined in cooperation with suppliers. The cost price estimates of the new product are kept up to date and are regularly evaluated to see if the product still meets the requirements and expectations previously set. Subsequently, a 2D technical drawing package is derived from the 3D model in which the dimensions and specifications of the new product (subassemblies & parts) are described. With this package, after going through a structured realization process, the final design is produced.
