Are you in the market for a massive fiberglass dinosaur head? Here’s your chance

A local man is selling what could be one of the most unique lawn ornaments this side of the Choctawhatchee Bay.

Jason Lamp, an Okaloosa Island resident, is trying to find the right buyer for his massive fiberglass dinosaur head, which clocks in at seven feet tall and more than 500 pounds.

“You know, I just like unique things, things that no one else has,” he said. “My original idea was we were going to put a pool in (the backyard) and make it a part of that.”

Lamp said he purchased the Tyrannosaurus Rex noggin, named Rexy, from Wild Willy’s Adventure Zone about a year ago. The park needed to unload the unique item as part of its upcoming remodel.

“I picked it up there and put it in the bed of my truck and put it in the backyard,” he said. “My wife was really upset about it, until all her friends said, ‘Oh my God, that’s so cool!’”

Lamp said he’s gotten some interesting reactions from neighbors, including an older woman who “kind of walked over and shook her head” shortly after he brought it home. But he put the head in his backyard, behind his privacy fence, and has mostly enjoyed the interesting decoration with his family and friends.

But now, a job opportunity with a radio station group in Tallahassee means Lamp is moving out of the area, and he said it’s been “a little difficult” to post a listing for his house that includes a seven-foot-tall dinosaur head in the backyard.

So, Lamp posted the head for sale on various Facebook groups and has gotten tons of reactions, he told the Daily News on Wednesday. He’s priced the custom sculpture, which he said cost upwards of $5,000 when it was specially made in China, for $1,650 and has gotten some interest from potential buyers.

“A lot of people have asked if they could rent it for a birthday party and those types of things,” he said. “I should have thought of that. But I think the right person will come along.”

The head has a little bit of wear and tear and is missing a few of its massive teeth, but Lamp said those can easily be glued back on.

“I never really thought it’d get this much buzz,” he said. “But it’s taken on a life of its own.”
