A back yard birthday usually would have between 10-20 kids. A school or church event can have 100-200 kids. Churches and schools have to take into consideration that this is a public event and will want to make sure that you choose units that will meet all age groups of children participating.
If you are having 10 or 15 kids at your party you can consider picking a bounce house or combo with slide.
A standard Commercial Bounce House is 13’x13’ and most Combo Unit is a 13’x13’ jumping area with a slide attached. Most Bounce Houses and Combo Units can accommodate up to 7 at a time (keeping in mind they are all the same age and physical ability). Combo unit can accommodate more kids simply because it separates the kids doing different actives (ie. Sliding, getting back in, climbing up the stairs, etc). Even if you have more kids at the party, have to keep in mind that you are supposed to separate the little ones from the older ones.
If you have a festival or a block party, where you expect to have a lot of kids you may consider renting a Inflatable Slide or an Obstacle Course. A bounce house can fit only a certain amount of children and leads to long waiting time and lines. Bounce house’s typically only have 1 entrance and exit making it more difficult to get the kids in and out of the unit in a timely manner.

It is a pretty good size slide and teenagers still have fun on it but it is better for little ones because the height is not that scary to them.
If you want to rent an inflatable slide for kids over 12 years old you should go with 15’ and taller units. 12’ inflatable slide most likely won’t keep their attention for long.
