With a successful racing history dating back to the 1960s, McLaren has always been on the cutting edge of automobile design. In the early 1990s, McLaren decided to take the culmination of its racing knowledge and set out to build the ultimate road-going production car, which would ultimately take form as the McLaren F1. After collaborating with Mercedes-Benz on the SLR supercar, McLaren was ready once again to start producing cars of its own. McLaren’s first clean-sheet design since the F1 came in the form of the MP4-12C in 2011. Eventually McLaren upped the ante with the launch of the P1 hybrid supercar, which went on to shatter performance records worldwide.
