Shandong Flood Control Office introduces new flood control water retaining board to build a "protective shield" for urban waterlogging.
News: With the arrival of the flood season, in order to improve the city's flood control and emergency response capabilities, the Shandong City Flood Control and Drought Relief Command recently deployed new modular flood control water retaining boards in key areas of the main urban area to build a solid urban safety line with scientific and technological means. According to the person in charge of the Municipal Flood Control Office, this batch of water retaining boards is made of high-strength aluminum alloy. A single set of devices can be assembled within 20 minutes, effectively blocking the invasion of floods with a depth of 1.5 meters. At present, it has been installed in more than 50 flood-prone areas such as subway stations, underground garages, and riverside shops.
Traditional flood control sandbags have pain points such as heavy handling, poor sealing, and low reuse rate. The new flood control water retaining plate has achieved three major breakthroughs through the modular structure of "slot base + superimposed baffle + rubber seal":
● Quick Response: A single baffle weighs only 8 kg, and property staff can carry it by hand. With the expansion bolts to fix the base, the key area can be deployed within 1 hour after the heavy rain warning is issued;
● Precise Adaptation: The height of the baffle can be stacked from 50 cm to 2 meters, and the width can be flexibly adjusted according to the entrance and exit. In the pilot of the underground garage of XX shopping mall, it successfully resisted the invasion of 300 mm heavy rain in July last year;
● Green and Environmentally friendly: Abandoning the one-time consumption of traditional sandbags, the aluminum alloy material can be reused for more than 5 years, and the maintenance cost is reduced by 60%.
In the flood control renovation of Shandong Binjiang Avenue, the water retaining plate is linked with the intelligent monitoring system. When the water level monitor detects that the warning line has been exceeded, the APP automatically pushes the deployment reminder. The staff scans the code to retrieve the installation guide and completes the 20-meter-long entrance blocking within 20 minutes. Compared with the traditional sandbag stacking, which takes 2 hours, the efficiency is increased by 5 times.
"Last year during the flood season, our garage was flooded and more than 30 cars were damaged. After installing the water retaining plate this year, the interior of the garage remains dry even in heavy rain." Mr. Wang, the property manager of XX Community, said.
The Municipal Flood Control Office revealed that the next step will be to expand the application scope of water retaining boards and simultaneously promote three major measures:
1. Cooperate with the community to carry out the "flood control toolbox" plan to equip old communities with small water retaining board sets;
2. Cooperate with scientific research units to develop smart water retaining boards with pressure sensors to monitor water pressure changes in real time and issue warnings;
3. Establish a city-wide water retaining board allocation platform to achieve rapid cross-regional emergency materials dispatch.
As urban flood control transforms from "engineering defense" to "smart defense", flood control water retaining boards are becoming the "last barrier" to protect urban safety. According to the meteorological department's forecast, the precipitation in Shandong City during this flood season is 15%-20% higher than usual. The Municipal Flood Control Office calls on citizens to pay attention to warning information, cooperate in key area protection, and jointly build a strong flood control safety network.
[Editor's Comment] From sandbags to smart water retaining boards, the iteration of flood control tools reflects the refined progress of urban governance. Only when science and technology are deeply integrated with people's livelihood needs can we deliver a "safe answer" in the test of heavy rain.
