A panel is a triangular piece of fabric, which is stitched together along with other panels to create the crown of a cap (the rounded part that goes over the head). Caps traditionally have 6 panels - 2 panels in the back, 1 panel on each side, and 2 panels in the front. 5 panel caps have 2 panels in the back, 1 panel on each side, and 1 panel in the front. A 5 panel cap has a larger front panel and as a result, there is no seam or stitching in the middle. 6 panel caps have a seam in the middle and stitching the join together the 2 front panels. This provides a larger area for logos and sometimes is preferred for screenprinting or heat transfer.
