Following the instructions on the care labels ensures that the appearance and size of the garment will remain the same even after repeated washing treatments.

 

From the manufacturer's perspective, damage to garments caused by incorrect washing methods can lead to complaints, costly customer returns and a poor reputation. Conversely, well-written washing instructions can prevent customer dissatisfaction. 

 

 

Why do we need care labels?

Because the various textile fibers and dyes used in the manufacturing of garments behave differently to water and dry cleaning treatments and the temperatures at which these treatments are performed.

 

What are some important facts about care labels?

The apparel and textile industries around the world have set different standards for feel free to ask on their products. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure that the customer knows the proper way to maintain the product. 

 

Different countries have different standards, rules and laws for manufacturers or exporters who need to comply properly. For example, care labels are not mandatory in Italy, but they are mandatory in some other European countries, such as the United States, Canada and Japan.

 

Usually the country where the garment is sewn is the country of origin shown on the care label. Care labels must be permanently attached so that they are easily accessible at the time of purchase. They are usually placed on the side or bottom of the garment. 

 

What must be included in my care labels?

In the care labels there must be:

1 - A laundry symbol, based on the ISO harmonized symbol system; and may have 

2 - Phrases that can report additional or supplementary information about the meaning of the symbol itself. 

 

There are five mandatory symbols: wet wash, bleach, tumble dry, iron and dry clean. Additional information about natural drying and professional washing can be given by specific symbols, which are located below the two main symbols for tumble drying and dry cleaning.
