Industrial Carbon Steel Bar Grating

20 Mar.,2024

Carbon steel bar grating is a great choice when your project requires a strong material that won’t be exposed to an expressly corrosive environment. Bar grating is ideal for industrial steel grating flooring and metal grates. Direct Metals® offers plain or serrated bar grating surfaces in galvanized, bare steel, or painted finishes.

Welded bar grating is the most common type of bar grating. Welded steel grating is joined at the intersection of the bearing bars and cross bars. Welded bar grating is a versatile option for light to moderate loads. When heavy loads are present, the Heavy Duty metal grating is the best option. The Heavy Duty steel grating can be appropriate for highways, airport runways, bridge floors and wheel traffic applications.

Another bar grating application includes drainage grates, which are an integral part of the interior of industrial plants, and the exterior landscape all around us. Also known as bar grating trench grating, these grates permit the passage of light, heat, and liquid, and therefore are useful in screening out unwanted elements and debris in various settings. Bar grating can be fabricated to fit the following applications:

  • Driveway drains
  • Storm water drains
  • Trench drains
  • Floor drains

Steel grates are also functional for industrial decks and flooring in chemical plants, food processing facilities, and oil and gas refineries. Metal grates are ideal for these applications, since they allow liquid to pass through the material, which helps to prevent slippery and hazardous work conditions. In addition, pedestrians rely on metal grates in public walkways, and near fountains and trees.

Bar grating in Light or Heavy Duty welded steel grating:

  • Light Duty steel grating ranges in size from 3/4" x 3/16" to 2-1/2" x 3/16"
  • Heavy Duty steel grating ranges in size from 1" x 1/4" to 6" x 1/2"

Metal Grating Types For Light Duty Welded Steel W Series:

Light Duty Steel Grating Press Lock - DT Series:

  • Produced like aluminum press lock because it is made up of interlocking perpendicular bars
  • Hydraulic pressure (not welding) is used to bond the slotted bars together, locking the deep cross bar into the notched bearing bar
  • Has a smooth, clean look due to a flush top rectangular cross bar
  • Slip resistant surfaces for floor grating available upon request

*Not for rolling loads

Light Duty Steel Press Lock bar grating offers strong lateral stability. This steel grating is used in architectural design because of its clean look and tight spacing. The 1/4" and 1/2" openings of the steel grating conform to the “American with Disabilities Act” (July 1991).

HEAVY DUTY CARBON STEEL BAR GRATING

Heavy Duty Welded Steel Grating - W Series:

Heavy Duty Welded Steel bar grating is a great selection when strength is required in architectural and industrial applications. This type of steel grating is produced when carbon steel or stainless steel bearing bars are welded to cross rods at each connecting point. Heavy Duty Welded Steel grating can meet vehicle-loading requirements and is made to handle heavy rolling loads.

Applications for heavy duty welded steel grating:

  • Steel bar grating airfield landing mats
  • Steel bar grating airplane unloading ramps
  • Steel bar grating highway bridge decking
  • Steel bar grating sidewalk grates
  • Steel grating platforms
  • Steel bar grating vault covers
  • Steel bar grating ramps
  • Steel bar grating docks
  • Industrial flooring
  • Off-shore steel drilling rig platforms
  • Steel grating covered trenches

Slip resistant steel grating and serrated surfaces are available upon request.
